Mother’s Day. Your day.
Published May 9, 2026

Listen, Mother’s Day is… great. It is.
It’s full of love and appreciation and gifts. And the kids get excited, and the SOs are super supportive, and the breakfast is great, and it’s just awesome.

And… it’s your day. Right? As THE mom. As the Grandmom. As the pet mom. As the women who, amidst their own lives, careers, and relationships, also managed to create, birth, and rear a child or children? It’s your day! Don’t you see what that means? It’s an opportunity to take a little time for yourself. To shop around downtown Estes Park. To hide in the corner of a coffee shop with your book for an hour. To do a solo run down the Riverwalk. Y’know? Buy some things. Walk aimlessly through little shops. Splurge on things that you wouldn’t usually.

Given all of the things you’ve done in life, in your career, in motherhood, you’ve earned this. So, we say… take it. This Mother’s Day, take some of the day for yourself. Just let them know you’ll be back in a few hours. And enjoy the time.

And to help, here is a list of six Things To Do (For You) in Estes Park. ENJOY. And Happy Mother’s Day!

  • Start Early — A solo run down the Riverwalk in Estes Park is a good place to start. I mean, nothing intense. Just moving while the air’s still cold and the town hasn’t fully picked up yet. Park near Bond Park or along Elkhorn Avenue and drop down to the Riverwalk from there. The river’s moving, a few people are out, and it feels like you’ve got space to think . Or not think.
  • Get a Coffee — A good coffee. One that takes time to make. Find a spot where you can sit for a while. Bring a book. Or — oooh — find a bookstore. Dedicate some time to finishing that novel. Start a new one. Trust me, there are a ton of quaint little places in Downtown Estes Park that will suck up your time.
  • Meander — So take your time downtown. Wander through a few boutiques. Try on something new. That t-shirt’s really cool and I could use another t-shirt. This would look cute on the baby. It’s been ages since I looked at lingerie for myself.
  • Stop for Brunch — At a place with menus that you — you know — hold in your hands. EAT CALORIES. Get the croissant. (Just… don’t question it.) Enjoy the food. Chat with the server. Order the mimosa. Read more of your book.
  • Find Quiet — Drop into a small museum. A quiet park. A matinee show. Slower pace, lower noise, solitude. Enjoy the silence.
  • Be Late. — Don’t rush back. (They’ll be okay without you for a bit more.) Take a walk along the river again or head toward the lake. Let it stretch.
  • Be Happy to Be Home. Believe you me, they’ll be missing you at this point. Soak up those hugs like a paper towel on a puddle of orange juice. And remind yourself: today is Mother’s Day. And it is a great day..

The Tenderness of Spring

The Tenderness of Spring

In the strange tenderness of spring, when the earth has already begunto dream of thaw and green things, the snow returns—not as a warning, not as a punishment, but as a hush. It falls softly enoughto make the whole world listen. And there, in the middle of the white,a small crescent moon remains,half-buried, half-revealed,wearing the storm like a blessing.Snow gathers on its shoulders, rounds its edges, softens the metal into something almost living,as if winter itselhas laid a gentle hand upon it....
